smitten with . modern bunk beds

8 Feb

lila has recently been asking for a bunk bed in her room. even though it will likely be a while before she ends up with one (and by then she may want something else completely) i can’t help but fall in love with a bunch of the awesome designs i’ve been finding. falling in love with some of the price tags has been a little more difficult, but that’s a whole nother story…

1. perch . 2. uffizi . 3. wave 2 . 4. pluunk . 5. austin . 6. duet . 7. amber in the sky

anyone out there have recommendations for any other awesome — but perhaps a little more affordable — bunks? and any input on what age might be best for bunk beds?

Those are so cool. I think #3 is my favorite. I saw this one on pinterest and I would just LOVE to have this if I ever have a little girl.

The dollhouse loft bed by Ashley furniture is pretty cute. Not quite a bunk bed but equally as cool. We are getting it for our four year old when we move into our new house. Without the bottom bed though. So she can have a little fort area to read, lounge or even sleep. And the price isn’t bad considering you get storage spaces for books, toys or even clothes. I was quoted 1000 here at the fort McMurray store.
    Cheers larisa

i’ll have to check it out larisa, thanks!!

    Affordable? Ikea, maybe?
Out of the above, I’d have to go with #7. I love the simple, clean lines, and I like that it is low-ish. It makes me think (probably erroneously) that it would be easier to make. (Crawling around on a top bunk and banging my head on the ceiling to make the bed each day equals zero fun in my book.)

    Good luck!

seven is totally one of my favourites! but $3000+ is just not going to happen, haha. and lila has almost mastered bed making now, so by the time she’s old enough to be in a top bunk, it sure won’t be me up there making it :)

My little man has this one!

He uses it with the bed on the bottom now. When he gets older we will flip it to where he can sleep on top and have a cool custom area on the bottom. I have seen people who paint the blue to make it unique to their child’s room. Like you guys we had all black furniture in his nursery to begin with, then switch over to all the light tones. I love it and so does he.

I can email you pictures of his room if you want to see what it all looks like. :)

sure nina, i’d love to see it in action — thanks.

my fav is number 1. husband seems to think we need a bunk bed for the girls. i think he’s crazy. ;)

    • andrea February 9 2012 at 6:44 am #

i’m leaning toward that one as well. i like that it kind of feels girly, and it seems like it would take up less space. i also like two a lot (and it’s the one i told you about where the bottom bunk can be moved and it becomes a desk). i love seven as well, but not the price tag. .

oh, and as much as i love bunk beds, the room you have planned for them is SO perfect already!! silly jamie.

I like #1and #2 best, which probably means they’re the most expensive ;) and I really like the ladder on #7.

    • andrea February 9 2012 at 8:35 am #

      good taste ;)

one and two are the two i’ll realistically be choosing between — they’re actually the cheapest ones. by a lot.

wow I love number 2 because it’s more li ke a loft bed than a bunk bed. My sister had one the only thing she didn’t like is the going up and down part and if you have low ceilings.

I’d say no bunk beds before 10 months. After that it’s allllll good.

    Have you seen this one?

I think the kiddo would LOVE it!! And totally affordable too!!!!

    • Nina February 9 2012 at 4:47 pm #

I almost spit my drink when I saw the price on this Lauren!!

    • andrea February 9 2012 at 5:10 pm #

remind me to find a new babysitter when cole turns 10 months old ;)

and yeah, that’s just pocket change. and so modern too. ha.

Do people really SPEND that kind of money on a child’s bed? That’s obscene!

  10. Kasia February 10 2012 at 5:10 pm #

    just as an idea:

    • andrea February 12 2012 at 7:05 am #

      so cute!! thank you :)

  11. Amanda February 12 2012 at 8:11 pm #

Yeah, those are some cool beds but damn some hefty pricetags. Pretty sure somebody up there mentioned the Kura from Ikea… That’s the one I have for the girls. I like that there will be zero chance of Violet falling out of bed (once we finally get her to transition out of the crib) buuut I am going to miss the underbed storage we had before.

Though I am kind of in love with the little reading den we’ve got going on in there right now.

We got our daughter bunkbeds when she turned 4. We have a rule though: top is for play only and bottom for sleeping for now. Her room is very popular when friends come over!

    • andrea February 13 2012 at 10:20 pm #

      thanks tricia!
