five months ago, we had a super awesome day of friends and food and triangles and cake, and it was so great to share it with so many of our favourite people. when cole got crabby (as most one year olds do) birthday cake made everything better!

you were right… it was a pretty awesome post! lovely everything ;)
so cute!
Andrea, you should start adding the Pin button to your images!!!This would be great for inspiration. :)
i find the button to be really distracting, but it’s super easy to just add a pin it button to your toolbar and then you can pin from any site :) http://about.pinterest.com/goodies/
Just wonderful! I am inspired by the hanging arrows… thinking I may have to do a version of this for my little ones’ room! I was wondering if you could share the colour name for your dark grey walls in your living room. I notice you are a lover of grey just like me… what are your favourites?
our dark grey is behr intellectual and i absolutely love it. we have a medium grey in cole’s room — behr atmosphere — that i also really like. the light grey we used is a little blue for my liking in most light, but it’s also behr, ashes. hope that helps!
What a great first birthday. :) Love the color scheme and all the decor! Can you come decorate for my next party? ;)
I am IN LOVE with this. Amazing lady.
Love all of the images, and love to see you guys in a few of the shots. What a great celebration.
curious, the balloons. How did attach them to the ceiling ? little nails? do you have a stipple ceiling ?
thanks so much shara! the balloons were taped to our stipple ceiling and it took a lot more time than i expected, haha. (it’s a good thing everything else was super simple!)
That last picture of him covered in the blue cake is the cutest thing EVER. What a gorgeous party! Also, I’d just like to say – I’m quite a new reader, but your posts are always so beautiful.
I love the colour of your living room walls, that dark slate colour. What’s the name of the colour and the brand… if you don’t mind.
behr intellectual :)
This is adorable! Our little guy’s first birthday party is coming up soon, and I was wondering how you did the strings of triangles. It looks like they’re machine stitched, but I can’t tell for sure. Thanks!
you got it! sewing machine :)
Thank you!
This is so great – I love it! Do you mind sharing where you found the balloons? They are super cute. I rarely see balloons in such great colors. Thanks!
thanks lindsey! the balloons are from dollarama and a local balloon store here in edmonton. if you happen to be local, check out “the balloon store” on gateway.
Hi! I absolutely love the decorations for your sons birthday party! I am looking for simple just like this for my son’s first birthday party. Did you make all of the decorations or purchase them from somewhere? I’m trying to make things easy on myself this year and try to buy rather than make as much as I can. If you made them, do you sell your creations? Love it all!! Thank you for any input!
Hello! This party is insanely adorable and such simple decorations without a crazy theme! I love it! I was wondering if you made all the decorations or purchased them from somewhere? If you made them is it something you sell? My son is turning one in two months and this is exactly what I want to do. If you made them and don’t sell them can you give me some tips on how a not super crafty person could make what you did?! Thank you!!
hi kelly! thanks so much :) i did make everything — it’s all pretty simple. i can give you directions if you let me know which goodies you’re hoping to recreate!
Thank you! Gracious I love it all! The garland, smash cake and cupcake toppers, balloons on the ceiling (I’m sure I don’t need direction in that though haha!), the cuteness over your fireplace. I really appreciate all the advice you can give me!
Love the first birthday..all awesome, especially the first year poem. Do you have a printable of it?
Andrea I love the triangle banners could you please share with me how you made these
Wow. This post inspired the heck out of my baby’s first birthday party this past weekend. I didn’t realize just -how- inspired I was. I ended up using a lot of the same colours and the triangle garland — I thought I saw the garland on two different blogs, but when I came back to this one I realized it was the same one I saw the colours on. *facepalm*
Anyway, thank you thank you THANK you for these ideas, and I’ve linked to you on my party post to make sure everyone knows you’re the real deal and had all the original ideas. Again! Thank you! Great post.
I thought I saw the triangle garland and arrows on two separate blogs* was what I meant to say. :) Sorry.
You have an amazing eye for color. I emulating some of your ideas for my sons first birthday. You’d mentioned that you had a hard time putting the balloons up, how did you ultimately hear them to the ceiling. I was going to use glue dots.
